Volunteering
The Stables is run entirely by volunteers, and we are always looking for new people to join our team. The main thing we ask for is enthusiasm. We can provide the necessary training.
Volunteering opportunities include the following:

  • Acting
Stables productions are cast by open auditions among our members. To be notified of new audition notices, ask to join our actors’ mailing list.
  • Art gallery
Help to prepare for each exhibition and host the private views.
  • Bar
Serving customers, usually 6 pm to 11 pm on performance evenings.
  • Box office
Daytime or evening shifts on a regular basis. Basic computer skills required.
  • Coffee bar and stewarding
Selling programmes, coffee and sweets before the performance and during the interval, as well as helping the front-of-house managers.
  • Directing
Plays and directors are chosen each year by the artistic planning group. There are opportunities to pitch your ideas. We also need assistant directors and production assistants, and these are often the best ways to learn the ropes.
  • Front-of-house manager
Welcoming customers, checking tickets, selling programmes. Responsibility for the comfort and safety of theatregoers, before, during and after the performance.
  • Gardening
Join our small team keeping the grounds of the Stables clean and attractive.
  • Props
Sourcing or making the props used during a production.
  • Set building
Hands-on work. We have a new set to create every month.
  • Stage and technical crew
Behind the scenes for the final rehearsals and performances of a production.
  • Wardrobe
Making and altering costumes, or supervising the wardrobe for an entire production.
We ask that all volunteers become Stables members. When you become a member, tell the box office team which areas you would like to volunteer in. The coordinators of those departments will then get in touch with you.

Alternatively, email , telling us which areas you would like to volunteer in.
